Carolyn Bird is President and an owner of Casco Bay Engineering. With almost 30 years of experience, Carolyn brings enhanced analytical, technical, and quality standards to structural analysis and design. She is highly regarded by her clients and the professional community and is licensed in various states throughout the country. Her understanding of 3D finite element behaviors in buildings, lateral load paths, reinforced concrete, and structural steel design is crucial to the success of the projects she manages and oversees.

Carolyn received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Vermont in 1990. Throughout the 1990’s she worked in Seattle, Washington for internationally renowned Magnusson Klemencic Associates. It is with this company that she began managing large and prominent projects early in her career. Carolyn was the Structural Project Manager for the Experience Music Project in Seattle, Washington, with Architect Frank O. Gehry & Associates. She also served as the Lead Project Engineer for Benaroya Symphony Hall, home of the Seattle Symphony. Both projects were highly complex and utilized a minimal number of engineers to effectively and successfully complete. She was also involved in the engineering of CenturyLink Stadium (home field for the Seattle Seahawks), Children’s Hospital, Swedish Hospital Southwest Wing, and Microsoft Redmond West Campus, all of which are in Washington State.  In addition, she served as a design engineer on the Honolulu Convention Center and project engineer for the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital Addition. Internationally, Carolyn was involved in the design of Echelon Square; a building comprised of two 40-story towers in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

In 2000, Carolyn moved to Portland, Maine, and in 2003, she became one of the founders of Casco Bay Engineering. Her recent involvement as Principal-In-Charge for Casco Bay Engineering as the WBE Structural Engineering company working again alongside her former employer Magnusson Klemencic Associates on the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center Expansion for the Truck Marshaling Building in New York City has been paramount to the success of the project.

Carolyn donates much of her professional time to various organizations including the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), where she currently serves as the President for the Maine Chapter.
