Phillips Academy, widely known today as “Andover”, is the oldest incorporated boarding school in the United States founded during the Revolutionary War in 1778.  

The independent K-8 school maintains a strong connection to the natural landscape with a student body that has grown from originally 28 students to over 100.    

The outdoor terrace integrates the building into the surrounding campus and landscape; this space along with the lower level, once dark and dingy, was transformed into gathering spaces for students and faculty.  

A referendum passed by the voters enabled construction of a new 17,000 square foot gymnasium as well as renovations to the existing building.

This new $15 million LEED registered school includes a full-size gymnasium, cafeteria, library, music room and stage which are connected to the double-story Y-shaped classroom wings.
