As the primary provider of youth programs on the island, the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club has grown from 80 members in 1960 to over 700 members, while the original building had remained relatively unchanged except for a small expansion in the 1990s. The new 20,000 square foot expansion includes a gymnasium with two basketball courts, Teen Center, game room, Learning Center, locker rooms and kitchen while featuring numerous sustainability characteristics such as a geothermal source for heating and cooling systems, use of significant recycled content construction materials, and high R-value structural insulated roof areas.
